Six Weeks

Believe it or not, Anthony was six weeks old yesterday...time is just flying by, and I have a lot of catching up for this post. The main thing is, my mom started back to school last week so it's just me and Anthony now, but we are managing just fine. I'm feeling pretty much back to normal at this point, and I had my six week follow-up appointment a couple days ago and all is well. We've been getting out and about more recently, and it feels so good to be able to do so without wearing myself out.

Anthony is becoming more and more alert and is really starting to interact with us. Of course, there is the singing from my previous post, but now he's starting to hum along with me when I do...it's more of a grunt actually or sometimes he sounds like he's purring. He's also starting to be more vocal, cooing some and just hollering out, mostly when he's excited and playing. He is really beginning to check out his surroundings wherever we are when he's good and awake...he stares at the pictures on the walls when we walk around the house, but he especially loves lights and ceiling fans. We had tried to establish a routine with him early on thinking it would be good for him, but he is getting almost too set in his ways so we're trying to switch things up a bit, mainly when it comes to playtime. He loves to sit up on my lap and have me read to him too. His favorite book is The Wheels on the Bus, but that's only because I am actually singing to him instead of reading. He continues to amaze us with lifting up his head. He's doing it all the time now and actually trying to move and get up, normally when someone is holding him and he insists on looking around. Sometimes he'll even throw his arms out and try and use them to get some momentum going to pull himself up. You really have to watch out for him! He's growing like crazy and has an appointment next week so we'll know how long he is and how much he weighs then. We've laughed about how they should make big and tall clothes for babies because he would definitely need the talls. A lot of his onesies we have to try hard to get to snap because his torso is so long. Some of his outfits end up looking like v-necks after we snap them and it pulls them down. For his undershirts, we had to go ahead and buy some 3-6 month sized ones so they'd fit better. Also, his socks were way too small and starting to cut into his leg so Mom had to buy him the 6-12 month size. That's right, he's six weeks old and wearing six month socks!

So, I'm a couple of weeks behind, but he turned a month old on Saturday, July 30th. We wanted to do something to try and document each month for his baby book and just have to keep through his first year, so we had a mini photo session that day. My friend, Susan, had done something similar with her kids, and it's going to be fun to look back on these photos later on. So, here are a couple from when he was a month old:

The week before last my brother, Collin, was able to stop by one afternoon for a couple of hours. Anthony was wide awake the whole time and had so much fun playing with him. For those of you who have said that Anthony looks like Collin, this picture's for you. Pretty sure this is what Anthony's going to look like in about 28 years.

Earlier this week, David was able to give Anthony his first bottle. We were a little nervous about whether or not he would take it, but no worries there...he did just fine and guzzled it. He took to it pretty quickly, but did stop for a second and looked up at David with wide eyes. Kinda caught him off guard for Daddy to be feeding him, but then he picked right back up where he left off and drank the whole bottle. I'm pretty excited and hoping I can get a little bit more sleep now if needed and we're also hoping to plan a date night soon!

Yesterday afternoon I went out to my Mom's school so that all of the other teachers there could meet Anthony. This is the same elementary school I went to growing up and a lot of the teachers I had are still there so it meant a lot to me as well to go out and visit with them. Also, they had given Mom a grandmother shower at the end of the school year in May and were so overwhelmingly generous so I know a lot of them were anxious to see him, and again, it meant a lot to me to be able to see them and thank them once again for everything. This afternoon Dad finished his route early so he took me and Anthony out for a late lunch and then we stopped in at the post office, so he got to show him off to all his co-workers today. I hate it, I didn't have my camera today, but here are a couple from yesterday.

Mom with Anthony in her office. He was so caught up in checking everything out on the walls since she has so many posters and decorations up. He couldn't take his eyes off the arithmetic frogs long enough for a picture.

Here's Anthony taking his first ever spin in his stroller through the halls at school.

Since Anthony is so mesmerized now with everything, he absolutely loves to be in his crib and watching his turtle mobile. He could lay there and stare at them for hours. This is also where he does most of his cooing and hollering.

Here are a few more random pictures from the last couple of weeks:

On the way to Mam-Maw's house last Sunday. We snapped this picture of him because he looked so big sitting there.

Looking cute in my new frog outfit.

Enough with the pictures...can we just get on with this bath?

Most recent family photo - Anthony decided he wanted to look at Mommy instead of the camera.

Jill, Thanks for doing this blog- it's great to be able to keep up with all that's going in there in between visits. Wish I was coming with Ken today - I'm afraid Anthony might be all grown up by the next time I see him!!! Give him a hug & kiss for me - Anthony that is!!! Love to all of you! Lynn
