- Developmentally, when he turned nine months old he could basically just sit up and then roll around the floor as far as moving around. In the last month he's learned how to go from lying down flat on the floor to sitting up and did so the first time on April 15th at nine and a half months. He has been trying to do this for so long, and he's so happy now that he can do it on his own! He has continued to be on all fours and rocking, and he learned how to go from that position to sitting back on his bottom. He also learned how to push himself and kinda crawl backwards a little. In watching him this month, it was amazing seeing how he could get around and go after anything he wanted, but he still wasn't crawling! I was starting to wonder if he would crawl at all, but he finally did on April 24th, so about a week before he turned ten months. He had also been wanting to pull up on things throughout the month, but couldn't pull up or stand up on his own so we helped him quite a bit. Sneak peek though for next month - a couple of days after he turned ten months and just a week after he started crawling, he learned how to pull up and stand up next to things on his own!
It really has been a crazy month with all he has learned how to do, and I'm so proud of him! He's really happy too with all the ways he can maneuver around and loves exploring and checking things out. He already knows where he shouldn't go and what he shouldn't get into, and of course, that's what he makes a beeline for! He gets so excited when he sees something he wants to go after and will do this little evil laugh and start booking it across the floor.
I had been a little concerned with his slower pace of learning how to do all this kinda stuff, but figured he would do them in his own time. Also, he got set back a few weeks with his surgery and the recovery, and I think that was a contributing factor. Well, he's all caught up now, that's for sure!
- The other area where he made great strides this month was with his food. Around nine months we had tried starting him on some finger foods and textured things, and he couldn't stand it. We kept trying and within a couple of weeks, he got to where he loved it, but only if you would feed it to him, he didn't want to try and feed himself. The last couple of weeks though he started wanting to try and pick the food up and do it himself. He was sick the last week of April and didn't want to eat much of anything except bananas. He loves to get a piece of banana in his hand and just gnaw on it. Some of the other foods he's eaten and loved are puffs, mum-mums, steamed carrots, any kind of bread, all kinds of crackers (he loves the baked goldfish crackers though), and pieces of rotisserie chicken. He's still mostly eating his regular baby food and just snacking on these in addition to it. He's also gotten to where he can tell you when he's finished eating and will take his whole arm and push the food away when he's done. He's also learned how to smack his lips this month! Thankfully, he does this more when he's playing than when he's eating.
- We've been working with Anthony trying to get him to wave hi to people, and he finally did on April 12th. Mom and I were at the salon getting our hair cut, and he waved to another lady getting her hair done. He'll wave to people maybe about half the time you try and get him to right now, just really only when he wants to. We can't get him to wave bye-bye though, only hello at this point.
- Anthony has done a lot with his hands this month too. He'd already been shaking things he would be holding, but now if you tell him to "shake it", he'll grin real big and shake whatever he's got in his hand. He's also learned how to bang things together if he has something in each hand. This really started with the Easter eggs this month. He loved to hit them together. When you hand him something or he gets something in his hand, he likes to turn it over and over and study it before he starts playing with it. He does this with everything! Another thing he's started doing is holding things up to show them to you. He especially likes to do this with his goldfish crackers and bananas. He also loves to point his index finger at things. He'll sometimes point at you or toys, and he often will take that one little finger and poke at things. He has also learned how to give you five. He won't do any high-fives, just ones down low where he can hit his hand in yours.
- Anthony still loves to be outside, and the spring weather has been so nice this month that we've spent a lot of time outdoors with him. My aunt and uncle bought him a Little Tikes swing for Christmas and offered to let us have their boys' old swingset. So, we moved it to our house a couple of weeks ago and got his swing all set up in the backyard. He absolutely loves it and has the best time! He kicks his legs, smiles real big with his mouth open, and will just laugh and holler. He also thinks it's funny when someone swings with him in the swing next to him. Grandma and Grandpa Moyers also got him a little red wagon, so we've been letting him ride around in it, and he loves it too. I love his cute little head sticking up over the top of it bouncing along. We've found it's a great way to get him to take a nap too...he'll curl up in it and fall asleep while you're pulling him, but you have to keep moving because if you stop, he'll wake up.
- Speaking of sleep, Anthony's gotten to where he will now try and sit up when you're rocking him to sleep. He can be just about asleep, and he'll throw his whole body up and sit straight up so he won't go. Of course, it only lasts for a little bit, and he's so tired he'll lay back down, but I've spent a lot of time rocking him sitting straight up this month, but only for his naps. With his bedtime routine and how worn out he is at night, he goes right to sleep without any trouble, which I'm grateful for.
- The girls who were our neighbors in Atlanta had given Anthony the stuffed lamb chair as a good-bye present, and it has become one of his favorite things! We've affectionately named it "Lamby", and Anthony loves to just crawl and climb all over it. He's also gotten to where he'll get up in its face and love on it and just try and talk to it. It's so cute! Another of his favorite toys right now is his music table. Since he loves music so much, I had been wanting to get him one for awhile, and I found one this month at a consignment sale. He loves playing with it, and especially if you hold him and let him stand up next to it.
- Anthony was sick the last week of April with a coxsackie viral infection (hand, foot, and mouth disease), and that was really the first time he's been sick other than a couple of colds. I am so grateful he has been so healthy thus far, and it breaks my heart to see him sick. The poor little fella was miserable and wouldn't eat much of anything all week, but thankfully, he recovered fairly quickly.
- Anthony continues to become more and more vocal with each month and is doing a lot of babbling, but still no words just yet.
- He's got a little more hair coming in and is starting to get really fuzzy. We still can't figure out what color it is. Sometimes it looks dark and we think it's brown, but other times it looks really light and almost blond. There are even times it has a red hint to it, so I guess we'll just wait and see as more comes in!
- With all that's happened this last month, I finally went ahead and put away Anthony's swing, bouncer, and even the play nest. Now that he can crawl and is always on the move, it was definitely time. Again, he's just growing up so much so fast here all at once!
Anthony's ten-month pictures this month were insane trying to take! I seriously managed to take only a handful of pictures so what you see is most of what was taken. It was starting to get hard with him rolling over the previous couple of months, but since he had just learned how to crawl the week before these, he did not want to lay down at all! I finally had to dangle my car keys next to the camera to get him to look and even had to let him play with them for a second. I just hope we can make it a couple more months with these! Here they are as well as some other miscellaneous pictures from between nine and ten months.
