Eight Months Old

Anthony turned eight months old, well, at the end of February. Since he was born on the 30th, I wasn't sure what to do about his eight month pictures, so I opted to take them on the 29th. Regardless, he's eight months old now, and here's where we are at eight months:

  • The big news - he has teeth now! Finally! The two front teeth on the bottom came in this last month, and we noticed the first one on February 16th and the second was not too far behind on the 29th. We knew they were getting close, but we realized that first one was poking through when Anthony started biting down on his spoon and holding it in his mouth when he was eating. He was basically trying to teethe on his spoon, and we could feel him chomping down with that little tooth!

  • He had tapered off on his singing the previous month, but he's picked back up on it and is singing all the time once again, which I love. I was so afraid he had moved on, but it looks like we have a singer, just like his daddy!

  • Anthony has been able to roll from his back to his stomach and vice versa for awhile now, but he never would roll and keep on rolling. Well, he picked up on it this month and actually started doing it when we were at the house in Atlanta. It must have been the wide open floors after we'd packed up everything, but he's got it down now and can go anywhere he wants to just by rolling around.

  • Whenever someone is holding Anthony and he wants to come to me, he always looks back and laughs at them once he gets in my arms, just to rub it in and say "Ha, ha, Mommy's got me now". Well, he continues to do that, but he's getting to where it's a big joke and he'll do it whenever he gets passed around with anyone. He's picked up on the fact that everybody loves to get hold of him, and he thinks it's funny when he leaves one person and wants to look back at them and laugh. When I get him from someone, he'll look back and laugh at them, squeal really loud, and bury his face in my shoulder.

  • It may seem a little odd, but we've noticed that Anthony loves to have his ears scratched. He can be moving around and kicking, but as soon as you go to clean his ears or scratch them, he will get as still as can be and just let you scratch them for as long as you want to. He almost just gets numb, and I'm not sure why it feels so good to him, but it's the funniest thing to see him be so still.

  • Previously, Anthony had been learning how to blow raspberries, but he's never been really good at it. Lately, he's picked up on us breathing in when we blow them, and he tries to do the same thing. He'll suck in a breath and then try to blow the raspberry, but when he pushes his lips together, it just comes out with him saying, "Boo". So, him blowing raspberries basically comes out as him saying, "Aboo" when he tries to suck in the air then blow it out. We've laughed that that's one of his first words since that's the monkey's name in Aladdin and that's what he's saying when he does it.

  • Anthony's gotten to where he can reach my face when I'm rocking him. If he's really sleepy, he likes to reach up and grab my nose and play with it. In a way it drives me nuts, especially if he manages to stick his finger up my nose, but, at the same time, it's really cute and sweet that he tries to grab at my face.

  • He's getting more and more vocal with each month, and this month he is squealing, hollering, and cooing even more. Something he's also learned how to do this month is whine. I'm not sure why he's started whining because he's almost always in a good mood and nothing's wrong, I think he's just figured out how to and whines just to hear himself making noise. Hopefully he'll lose interest in doing so soon and this will pass quickly!

  • Anthony has always been a light sleeper and continues to be, and honestly, I think it may be getting worse. I truly think he has a sixth sense and can hear a pin drop in his sleep. When he's in his crib at night, if I try to tiptoe in to check on him or walk out of the room, it always stirs him and usually it will wake him up. We can even be walking in the hallway with his door closed, and if the floor creaks even the slightest bit, it will wake him up.

  • This month Anthony has been chewing on everything, but I'm sure that's mostly due to his two teeth that came in. He's a biter and anything he gets in his hand goes straight to his mouth!

  • He still seems to be having some issues with touch and sensitivities towards things. I think mostly it's the new things he's discovering, but he continues to do so each and every time and not just when he initially feels something. You can always count on him to shudder at hair, water (rinsing him in the bathtub), paper, napkins, and the velcro on his bibs.

  • One of Anthony's favorite toys at eight months are the stackable rings. He has figured out how to get them off and then he loves to chew on them. He plays with them just about all the time. Another favorite of his right now is a little stuffed bunny that my great-aunt gave him as an early Easter present. It sings "Jesus Loves Me" and every time we give it to him and start the music, his face just lights up and he'll reach out to grab it and give it a hug. His favorite bath toy is one of his squirters that's a whale, and it looks like Shamu. I think he loves it so much because with the way it's shaped he can hold it really easily, and he loves to chew on it too.

  • We introduced a sippy cup to Anthony this month and have been giving him a little bit of water in it just to go ahead and let him play around with it and give him a little practice. So far he's been doing really well with it and loves to hold it himself and try and drink out of it.

  • I'm just amazed at what a good baby Anthony has always been, and he continues to be. So much so that even when we are out and about, people are beginning to come up to us and tell us what a good baby he is, whether it be in a restaurant or in a store where he's in his stroller or sitting in the shopping cart. He really is the best baby ever, and I know I am so blessed by him being so!

Here are Anthony's eight month pictures as well as a bunch of pictures from this past month. He felt so much better following his surgery these last few weeks that I went a little overboard!

And he's after the sign...

And we're done...
