Five Months Old

I am so far behind right now and will be working on getting several posts up hopefully over the next few days. Things got really crazy for us especially through the holidays as I made most all of our Christmas presents and spent any extra time I had working on them. I didn't even take the time to just post picture updates because David's computer got a really bad virus, and we also got new phones for Christmas so I had pictures on an external hard drive, my regular camera, and both of our phones that I needed to sort through and organize. Enough excuses...on to the updates!

Anthony turned five months old on Wednesday, November 30th. I looked back over his four month post, and there are only a couple of things to add to it. He was still doing so much of what he was at four months, but was talking more and more and still loved books and playing in his jumperoo. There were some pretty big milestones and funny things to add though:

  • Anthony finally rolled over for the first time just before he turned five months old! He actually rolled over first from his back to his stomach and had been so close for so long. He had mastered throwing his legs up in the air and using them as extra weight to turn on his side, and then he learned how to use them to get from his side on to his stomach. He'd try so hard and we'd think he had it, and then he'd just flop back over on his back. David was actually at home when he rolled over for the first time, and we caught it on our video camera...so proud of the little guy, and he was proud of himself too!

  • We gave Anthony his first cereal around four and a half months, and he loved it and continued to do well with eating it. He was really a neat eater from the start, but occasionally would get some on his face. He couldn't stand it though and would fuss for us to wipe it off. He got to where he would turn his head around in his high chair, and we thought he was just trying to look at all the designs and colors on the seat. Nope, he was trying to wipe his mouth off on it! Once he got turned around enough, he just buried his face in the chair! So, we had to watch him close and make sure we kept his mouth wiped off. He's since gotten used to some food being around his mouth and on his face, but at first we were having to wipe it off between every bite!

  • Anthony has always loved to be on his back and playing, but around five months, he got to where he wanted to sit up and play more instead. He'd still play on his back some, but once he was ready to get up, he would lift up his head and shoulders off the floor and try and sit up. It looked exactly like he was doing crunches and sometimes he'd hold it for awhile trying to raise up.

  • Anthony has also always loved music and people singing to him. Around five months old, he all of a sudden started singing on his own. Of course, when I say singing, it's not really talking, but was more of a long drawn out "ahhh, ahhh, ahhh" that he would just do over and over. It first started whenever he would ride in the car. I guess it was because the radio was on and then he also started doing it in his swing when the music was playing. If someone was in the back seat with him, he'd look at them and try and get them to sing too. Same thing when he was in his swing. We love to hear him sing, and he does it all the time! Might as well get ready for all kinds of kid's songs and sing-a-longs in the future!

Here are his pictures from five months:
